We've put together answers to the questions we get asked most often. If there's something we haven't covered, please drop us an email and we'll get back to you soon.
I want to buy a jacket, why can't I?
Our jackets are sold in batches, and are only available four times a year.
Once they are sold out we close our shop to focus on making the jackets, while designing our next one.
To find out what's coming next, it's best to sign up to our newsletter so you hear first and get early access.
Where do I need to be at 9 AM?
Our website is the only place to buy a Paynter jacket.
To give you the best chances of getting a jacket, it's best to be on the product page of the jacket that you want. Also, you'll need to decide your size before they go live.
Newsletter subscribers get to pre-order and guarantee themselves a jacket before anyone else, without having to rush on launch day, by placing a pre order and even using a 50/50 payment plan if you'd like. You can read more about how that works here.
How long are the jackets available for?
Our jackets are available on a first come first serve basis. Each Batch goes live on a Saturday at 9am UK time.
In the past, our jackets have sold out quickly (our last Batch sold out in 2 minutes) so if you know you want a jacket, it's best to be quick. Or, join our newsletter to be able to make a pre-order and get earlier access without any rush on launch day.
You can watch the behind the scenes of one our recent releases here.
What number will I get on my jacket?
Each jacket is individually hand-numbered in the order that they're sold, and defined by it's colour too, making every jacket undeniably part of it's Batch, never to be remade again.
How do I know what size I am?
Check out our size guide to find your best fit.
We make jackets from XS to XXL. Usually our fit is unisex, but occasionally the style calls for a men's and women's fit.
If you're unsure about your size, or have any questions, please drop us an email or direct message us via instagram at @paynterjacket. We'll be happy to help.
Where are your jackets made?
Our jackets are hand made in a factory nestled away on a mountain side in Guimarães, Portugal. It’s a proper maker town.
The factory is a small family run business that has been going for the last 30 years, specialising in jackets. They have a track record for supporting the underdogs. We’re proud to have our jackets made by them.

How long until I get my jacket?
We don't like waste, so we make our jackets once we know what exact sizes and colours we're making. The making process takes around 6-8 weeks.
We keep you informed at every step of the way, showing you your jacket being made and where it's up to behind the scenes in weekly video updates.
So if it's made to order, can I return if it doesn't fit me?
Of course! We do everything we can to minimise the chances of your jacket not fitting, however it can happen, and we will make sure you're not out of pocket.
If your jacket didn't fit, you just need to return it in perfect unworn condition, and it will go to a happy home to the next person on our wait list. Full exchange and returns information is here.
Do you accept all payment types?
We accept all major credit cards on our website, however we do not accept PayPal payments.
I'm based in Europe, what has changed because of Brexit?
We send all of our made-to-order European orders from Portugal so that you don't get extra duties and taxes when your order is delivered. The only time this doesn't happen is if you buy from us via the waitlist when the jacket is being sent from London, if that is the case, we'd make it clear before sending. To be sure, please check the 'shipping' section of the product page you're looking at to know if it's shipped from the UK or Portugal. If it's coming from the UK, duties and taxes will be charged on delivery.
Why don't you just make more?
A lot of people ask why we don't make more. There are 2 reasons why:
1. We don't like waste. Wasted fabric, or wasted jackets. That's why we limit production. We're careful to grow slowly as we want to keep a close eye on quality.
2. Our fabric is made bespoke, a process that starts many weeks (often months) before the jackets go on sale. That means knowing how many we are selling long in advance of a launch.
I missed out, what do I do?
If you don't manage to get a jacket when they go on sale, you can join the waiting list.
You'll find the link to join our waiting lists at the bottom of our newsletters.
How do I find out about the next jacket?
To see what we're working on next, we'd recommend signing up to our newsletter, or following us on Instagram here.
How do I wash my jacket?
Please check the label inside with instructions for your specific jacket, most are machine washable but some (our wool & car coat) are dry clean only.
It's good to wash as little as you can.
To dry, never tumble dry. Hang near a window or outside to air dry will do the trick. That should save it from needing to be ironed. If you do need to iron (you probably won't), iron from the inside out.
We also recommend Attirecare's protective spray, especially for avoiding stains on lighter coloured jackets.
