    This isn’t your average flannel shirt. It’s made using a heavyweight Japanese Indigo Check Flannel woven on old shuttle looms, and the darker contrasting check is woven with yarn-dyed indigo that will fade beautifully over time. It’s a super soft shirt that will keep you cosy and warm and get better with age. 

    As this batch of shirts has already been made, there will be a limited quantity available to our subscribers only on a first come, first served basis. Shipping from the 7th of December.

    Heavyweight (8oz) flannel, woven in Japan. 100% Cotton. Yarn-dyed indigo check. Two buttoned flap chest pockets. Pointed collar. Buttoned front. Single button barrel cuffs. Curved hem. Back pleats. Corozo nut fish eye buttons. Pre-washed for extra softness. Made in Portugal. When the time comes, machine wash at 30 degrees, hang dry and iron inside out.

  • Fit

    A timeless regular fitting shirt with enough room to move in and is comfortable for everyday wear. 

    The shirt fits true to size, so we recommend taking your normal size.

    Our model, Kingsley, is 5 foot 11 / 180cm and wears a size Large.

  • Shipping & Returns

    Our Japanese Indigo Check Flannel Shirts will be shipped from Thursday the 7th of December onwards. We use tracked services from DPD or Royal Mail for all destinations and you’ll receive tracking as soon as it’s on the way.

    Returns are accepted within 28 days of delivery.

    If you’re ordering from the EU, please note that this time our shirts will be despatched from London so duties and taxes will be incurred.

ICONIC AMERICANA MEETS JAPANESE CRAFT

Though you may categorise a classic check flannel shirt as Americana, this humble flannel fabric was actually invented in Wales in the 1600’s for one reason: warmth. The Welsh who are known for making cozy hard wearing heirloom blankets invented the warm flannel fabric to protected farmers who worked outside in the notoriously wet and windy Welsh winters (try saying that fast).



Flannel fabric has since been loved all over the world, and has gone through many reinterpretations since it was first invented. But we had never seen one quite like this before. The Japanese fabric mill that we have worked with for many years made their own version of this flannel on old shuttle looms using yarn-dyed indigo to create the contrasting check pattern instead of a jet black. The result is a fabric that will evolve and get better over time as the indigo yarns fade with every wear and wash. This is a fabric that wears in, not out.

THE CALIFORNIA OF EUROPE

Our shirts are hand made in a factory nestled away on a mountain side in Guimarães, Portugal. It’s a maker town. The factory is a small family run business that has been going for the last 30 years, specialising in shirts They have a track record for supporting the underdogs. We’re proud to have our jackets made by them.
