Today we’re launching a collaboration that is very close to our hearts - a Baby Butter Knife made by our friends at Allday Goods.
You’ll know by now that we rarely do collaborations, and when we do, they’re often centred around waste and raising money for charity. This one is no different. But before we tell you more about the Baby Butter Knife, we should tell you how it began.

In May last year our lives changed completely when our son Kit was born. I want to start by saying that he is now a very healthy little man who’s full of beans and recently took his first steps! But at the beginning it was very different.
His entry into the world was not smooth and we found ourselves spending the first two weeks of his life in Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU).
No parent imagines spending the first weeks in hospital, but some babies need to be there while they’re not well. Thanks to the team at Homerton Hospital, we had flawless care throughout and felt as safe as we could have, considering the circumstances.
From the beginning we felt indebted to the team and we started to think about how we could give back. At the same time we learnt about a plastic waste problem in NICU and it planted the seed for what has become the Baby Butter Knife.
From Bottle to Butter Knife.
When in NICU, new mums are given little bottles to store milk in for their babies. The bottles themselves are not re-usable even if sterilised, for risk of infection. With a lot of bottles we reached out to our friends at Allday Goods who we knew would be able to help.
Just a stones throw from our studio, Hugo and his team work with knife makers and craftspeople from around the world turning plastic waste into handles for beautiful quality knives. Or as they put it, 'getting a handle on waste'.
The brief was to turn the single-use milk bottles into butter knives that can be used everyday.
Why a butter knife?
In the UK, the first thing a new mum is given to eat after giving birth is a piece of buttered toast, so making a butter knife felt just right.
Thanks to the team at Allday, we now have a very limited edition of 20 Baby Butter Knives with soft hand-forged steel blades and handles made entirely from the waste plastic chips of those little milk bottles.
Rather than sell them, we've decided to open a raffle to raise funds for two charities that support families who find themselves in NICU when their babies arrive either early or unwell. Those two charities are Bliss UK and Homerton Hospital's Neonatal fundraiser.
As well as the 20 Allday knives, we will also be including 20 Paynter vouchers worth £50 each, so if you win, you'll be winning a butter knife and a Paynter voucher.

Why Two Charities?
We wanted to give back to the unit who cared for us so well, and Bliss who help families who were in our situation in NICU units across the UK.
Bliss
We were in NICU for two weeks, but some parents spend a lot longer there. Bliss is the charity who are there to support those families in a variety of ways - they do so much to support families across the UK which you can read more about here, but a couple of very tangible things they’ve recently achieved;
- Neonatal Leave for both parents has been implemented from April 2025 after tireless campaigning from Bliss, allowing parents to take paid time away from work to be with their baby while in hospital.
- On site accommodation. For every 10 babies in NICU, there is only one overnight room in hospital for parents to stay. Sometimes that means a long commute to specialist units - long agonising journeys as well as increased costs for families. We were lucky to live very near the hospital but not everyone is so lucky.
Homerton's Neonatal Unit Fundraiser
We were looked after by Homerton Hospital's NICU department, a leading unit in England. They are constantly looking for ways to improve their care through better facilities from the latest equipment and technology, beyond what the NHS can provide. We will donate 50% of the funds we raise to Homerton's Neonatal Unit Fundraiser.
